Digital Citizenship & internet Safety

Becoming a digital citizen is an important element of learning in the 21st century.  Our school understands that students, parents, whanau & caregivers need support and information to manage the behavioural & technical aspects of participating in digital environments.

All learners will participate in programs that emphasise responsible use, cyber safety & digital literacy that echo our AROHA approach.

Andrew Church summarises citizenship as
  • Respect yourself
  • Respect others
  • Protect yourself
  • Protect others
  • Respect intellectual property
  • Protect intellectual property
Check out Andrews short talk on edtalks here.

What you can talk to your child/children at home about:

Ask your child if what she wrote online, for example on a blog, is something that she could say in person?  How does what you are doing online show AROHA?

Are you respecting yourself? Are you respecting others?
Are your protecting yourself?  Are you protecting other users?

Supporting our children to become responsible digital citizens is important for our classroom, school, community & whanau.

The following are a range of resources that I suggest your read and discuss with your child.
